Schools and University Talks

Atlas Translations is actively involved in the promotion of languages in schools, and regularly attends educational establishments to talk to students of all ages about the importance of learning a language and developing an interest in other nations' cultures. We welcome invitations to visit schools and universities to offer advice about languages and careers in languages.

The staff at Atlas Translations are linguists through and through, and we love talking about our work! If you feel that a presentation relating to our work would be of interest to your school or university, please contact us with your request and we'll get back to you.

Translator and Interpreter Talks

We are often invited to speak at User Groups for translators and interpreters, and welcome such invitations – just contact us with details of your event.

Client Talks

Atlas Translations offers free workshops to clients who require language services offering advice on how to select suitable providers and get the best results from their language providers. Please contact us for more information.

We can run workshops for clients who need language services, custom-made to your particular requirements. These are free and run for 1 to 2 hours. We can hold workshops on-site at your offices, or you can come to us in Covent Garden.

We are always pleased to meet our clients, and we also hold regular “open days” when all clients (and potential clients!) are welcome to come in and chat to our Project Managers about our full range of services. Let us know if you'd like details of our upcoming dates.

Voiceover Courses

We regularly run courses for all those people who often tell us: “I'd love to do some voice-over work – but I don't know how to get started!”

We have teamed up with a long-established, professional voiceover artist who has more than 20 years of experience working as a voice-over artist, and is an experienced trainer. His career in voice-overs began with a contract with the BBC World Service, where he learnt to become a translator and broadcaster, practising every day for five years. He has recorded thousands of hours of narration for documentaries, corporate videos, training material and language courses, mainly in French but also in English, Italian, German and even Spanish, which he started to learn at evening classes!

Microphone

We offer two courses:

Absolute Beginners: This includes discussion on how to translate scripts, and looking at real sample scripts; sight reading and practice, top tips on looking after your voice and preparing for work, how the industry works, how to promote yourself, where to look for work, some tuition/general advice. The aim is to provide you with an understanding of what is required to become a successful voiceover artist. You will have the chance to record your own voice and have your recording analysed straightaway. Places are limited to ensure that each person receives full support and attention.   Location: London 10.30am to 3.30pm, weekends. Cost: £100 + VAT per person

Voice to Picture Workshop: This is run by our Trainer and a Producer/Studio Manager at a studio facility in London. The aim is to provide technical and practical experience and advice, working with studio equipment, including working to picture. This would benefit anyone who has attended Absolute Beginners, or who may have some limited experience they would like to build on.   Location: London 10am to 6pm, weekends. Cost: £180 + VAT per person

Here are some comments from our trainer's previous very successful courses:

“I would like to thank you for the great workshop. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I certainly didn't expect your workshop to prove useful so early, but on Wednesday they offered me my first voiceover job. What a coincidence! I agreed straight away, because I was so excited to have my first opportunity already! They had estimated we would take 2 hours to record my part, but we only took 45 mins. They liked it so much that they couldn't believe I had never done it before. They even said they would like to work with me in the future! But I must say that I owe it all to you. It's all those little tips you shared with us that helped me so much. Also, I think I was well prepared, because I knew what to expect and that helped me not get too nervous.”

“You began the workshop with some breathing exercises that would help us before a voiceover, to relax, open up our chests and let us project our voices properly. You also taught us other exercises … I found your comments extremely useful and constructive... a good sense of humour and that always helps to create a relaxing atmosphere and loosen inhibitions.”
