A one-of-a-kind voiceover workshop
Atlas held another greatly anticipated voiceover training course on Saturday 15th March. This time round, the course was held at the home of professional voice over artist, author and qualified ITI member, Daniel Pageon.

All seven participants began the day by eating breakfast with Daniel's family before completing the day-long workshop, which offered them insight into the profession, practical tips and first-hand training in the studio. Thanks to the restricted number of attendees, those present commented how intimate and relaxed the atmosphere was throughout the day.
‘Daniel had plenty of funny anecdotes and he was very helpful. He taught us lots of voice over techniques, like how to breathe properly when talking into a microphone. We were also able to record ourselves reading a variety of scripts, for example, radio interviews and airline announcements.' – Natalia.
Attendees also commented that they were pleased to have been able to do lots of networking during the course, swapping tips and advice with other professionals in the industry. The group ranged from those who had no previous experience of voice over work but were interested in having a taster session, to actors, translators and interpreters looking to broaden their CVs. There was also a great mixture of nationalities present on the day, including South African, Polish, Kiwi, French, Dutch, Urdu and English!
An advanced course will be taking place on 21st of June. If you are interested, then please contact justine@atlas-translations.co.uk or call the office directly for more details.
A European Easter
This month, the Atlas' team have taken the time to share their typical Easter traditions with readers.
Marta (Poland)
In Poland, special hour-and-a-half-long church services take place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday Sunday and Monday over the Easter period - the most important of which is the Easter Mass, which is held on Sunday at 6am (there is also another Mass on Saturday evening for church-goers who are not early risers). Most people fast on Good Friday and on Saturday, then break their fast on Easter Sunday, eating a meal which usually consists of ham, horseradishes, sausage soup, salads, eggs and bread.

Anna and Elly (England)
Neither Anna nor Elly observe any strict customs at Easter time but both enjoy spending time with their family and usually sit down to eat a roast dinner, followed by hot cross buns and Easter eggs.
Natalia (Spain)
In Spain, Easter is a very important religious celebration in which people like to take to the streets.
Over the course of a week, spanning from Sunday to Sunday, people join lively processions and pray to their Saints.

From Sunday through to Good Friday, the processions and floats of Semana Santa , as the period is known, re-enact Christ's last days. On Good Friday, the floats depict Christ in his grave and processions are held around local churches. Then, on Easter Sunday, people celebrate the Resurrection by feasting on meat.
Spring Wedding Bells
Anna Counsell, Senior PM and Quality Manager, is soon to be known as Mrs Anna Davies! She is getting married on 29th March and will then be jetting off to Florida and the Bahamas for her Honeymoon.

The wedding will take place in a church in the small village of Newport, just around the corner from where Anna grew up. Almost 200 guests will be attending the wedding and reception which, weather permitting, will be held in the grounds of a near-by hotel. Anna, who has lost five stone in weight in preparation for the big day, is keeping details about the dress and cake top secret but watch this space, as all will be revealed in next month's newsletter…
Atlas comings and goings
This month, the Atlas team bid a fond farewell to Christopher, who completed a six-month placement at the company, and are now joined by several new work placement students. Natalia, from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, has been studying Translation and Interpreting in London for the last three years and is now keen to put her skills into practice, whilst gaining some first-hand experience working in the industry. Marta, who has just finished her studies in Poland, is another welcome addition to the team and will be spending three months at Atlas, where she hopes to gain significant experience in the world of translation and perfect her English. Justine from France has taken on the position of work placement team leader and will be staying with Atlas for six months.
