Atlas Newsletter – October 2007

Calling all budding voiceover artists…

Atlas recently launched its first training courses for aspiring voice-over artists in London. The courses, catering for beginners in the industry, were the first of a series to be held by Atlas at weekends over coming months. Atlas teamed up with a highly regarded, professional voiceover artist and trainer, who made his name working for the BBC World Service and now has more than 20 years experience behind him, working on multilingual projects in a variety of genres.

Voiceover Artist

Atlas offers two types of course, the first aimed at Absolute Beginners, offering advice on script translation, sight reading and practice, industry insight and the opportunity for attendees to have their voices recorded and analysed. The second, aimed at those who have already attended the Beginner’s course, is a voice to picture workshop, which aims to provide practical and technical advice to artists in a studio environment, with a Producer and Studio Manager in attendance.

Both the first course in September, and the subsequent session, held on 6th October 2007, were an overwhelming success according to those who attended:

“I attended your Voiceover for Beginners course and I must say it was a thoroughly interesting and very enjoyable experience.”

“The trainer was very welcoming and put me (and I believe all the others) at ease. He gave us plenty of information and insiders' tips, all in a very clear and straightforward way, which helped considerably since we were all beginners in the field and a bit nervous.”

“I enjoyed the voice over course. It was a clear introduction to world of voice over, it helped me understand how to vary my voice, how to project appropriately and control my breathing while reading. Thank you.”

“Thank you Atlas and, of course, thank you to the trainer for such a helpful and informative day.  I'm definitely going to be developing in this area.  It shows that Atlas is a forward-thinking agency with a positive training ethos.”

Atlas visits Warsaw

Project Managers Anna and Agnieszka have just returned from the annual EUATC Conference held in Poland on 4th and 5th October. The theme of this year’s conference was Enterprise and Pproject Management from a global and localisation perspective, with special focus placed on GILT (globalisation, internationalisation, localisation and translation) strategies and practices.

Warsaw

Anna Counsell, Senior Project & Quality Manager, recounts the visit:

Agnieszka and I attended the EUATC Conference in Warsaw. The main theme was Project Management, which was of course excellent for us! We attended a workshop on Project Management and also several sessions on various subjects, such as working with the European Commission and working with Project Management software. It was a really good chance to network with other translation companies from around Europe and meet new contacts who we hope to work with in the future. We particularly enjoyed sampling the local delicacies!

Trados Courses a sell out!

After the recent success of the Trados course run by Atlas on 1st October, the company has launched a series of follow-ups due to popular demand. The courses, available at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels, provide training and insight into the Trados translation tool and its diverse applications. The most recent course, which took place on 13th October 2007, was a sell out, so those who are interested in attending future courses are advised to book places soon. For further information on these courses please contact our Training Co-Ordinator, christopher@atlas-translations.co.uk

Atlas attends Autumn Law Exhibition

Atlas exhibited at this year’s Autumn Law Exhibition, held at Olympia, London on 1st and 2nd October. The exhibition, which was organised by The Solicitors Group, included conferences, CPD training and provided a showcase for the latest products and services aimed at those in the legal profession.

Law Exhibition

The Atlas team, donned in their new company t-shirts, greeted clients, both old and new, and thoroughly enjoyed their day according to Anna Counsell, who organised the exhibition.

Wishing a warm Atlas welcome…

…to new team members Rebecca Xu, from China, and Silvia Calabrese from Italy, who have arrived on the Work Placement Programme which Atlas runs year-round, as part of its commitment to the promotion of languages and investment in people.
