CV clinic with J-NET – Atlas’ first CV webinar!

Creating a CV which displays your unique skill set can be a daunting task, but there are plenty of great ways to stand out from the crowd. Recently, Atlas’ Director Clare and our Marketing Manager, Charlie, presented our first ever CV clinic webinar, where they offered plenty of top tips to boost your CV.

Working with J-Net, the Japanese language specialist network of the ITI, the Atlas team delivered an hour-long workshop geared towards developing CVs that stand out in the translation industry. Read on to learn more about some of the best takeaways from the session!

Catching the eye of potential clients

A CV is an important part of any job application process, but it can be tricky to know what to include and what to leave out. Atlas Translations designed the webinar in collaboration with J-Net in order to discuss new ideas and suggestions about updating your profile to attract more clients.

Presenting your work to prospective clients can be stressful, but a CV is one of the best ways to stand out on your own terms. Many of us fall into the CV pattern of listing our professional and educational history in a simple format. Thinking outside of the box can be a brilliant way to get your voice noticed!

Creating a memorable profile

Employers can go through hundreds of applicant profiles in a search process, so what can you do to make sure they remember yours?

Targeting your CV to your audience is a great way to be more memorable. It can be easy to submit the same CV document to every job we apply for, but emphasising certain things that might be more suited to your target industry can help your CV stand out.

A focus on design

Formatting your CV in a very formal manner may seem like the most ‘professional’ way to present yourself, but it can often end up looking rather dull. Innovative presentation and design can be a really useful and easy way to make your CV memorable for your clients.

This can involve ideas such as including images or photographs to support your experience, creating a legible and easy-to-follow design, or making sure your identity stands out. Take a look at the short clip at the top of the page, taken from our CV clinic webinar, for great advice on how to make the design of your CV catch the eye.
