Four-Day Week: Atlas on the Radio!
As anyone who reads this page regularly (all three of you!) will know, we’ve been long-time advocates for the benefits of the four-day work week here at Atlas Translations. We introduced the reduced-hours scheme to our translation agency in 2019, and have seen a ton of great results since.
So when the chance came to spread the word about the four-day work week on the radio, we jumped at the opportunity. Two members of our HQ team, James and Charlie, were interviewed separately by the lovely Henry Winter at Greatest Hits Radio about what the four-day work week has meant for them.
The joys of the four-day week
Companies across the UK took part in a four-day work week trial scheme this year, with plenty of successful results. Having used the format for three years, we could offer insight into the longer-term benefits of the plan. James, our St. Albans office manager, was on the radio for a chat while the pilot scheme was in full swing.
James mentioned that one of the major benefits for us as a translation agency has been the opportunity to learn more about each other’s clients, as the work is shared more equally. That’s helped us to provide a better service for our clients, with less impetus on an individual project manager.
Embracing a better work-life balance
For James, another great benefit was the shift away from the work-centric culture that we often have in Britain. Working four days a week has seen an increase in productivity, with our workloads being better managed and more time for important rest and recharging.
Our marketing manager, Charlie, went on the airwaves after the four-day week Bill passed its first hurdle in Parliament. For her, the four-day week has been pivotal to being able to complete a Master’s degree with relatively little stress, thanks to an extra day a week to focus on her studies.
More ‘Me Time’
Charlie also mentioned the business-related benefits of the alternative way of working – our we celebrated our most successful year to date last year, two years after starting the four-day week. It’s also contributed to far less work-related burnout, with more ‘me’ time to relax.
For all staff at our translation agency, the four-day work week has been a brilliant way to improve our work-life balance and create an environment that enables us to achieve our goals.
