Improve Growth and Access with Closed Captioning

Closed Captioning / SRT Files / Translate Subtitles / Adding subtitles to video

Subtitling is a service that is growing in popularity, and there are plenty of great reasons why. Whether it’s to reach new audiences in different languages or create more accessible content, subtitles (also known as closed captioning) can be a brilliant addition to any video. Read on to discover more about why this ever-growing service could be the perfect next step for you or your business.

A Growing Market

Subtitling refers to the process of transcribing spoken or video content into written form. This is often then translated into another language, before formatted to fit neatly on the screen and move seamlessly with the audio so that the audience may follow – we can either burn the subtitles to video, or deliver them as SRT files. It can be found in a wide range of scenarios, from film and TV production to conference recordings and court interviews.

Recent research carried out by captioning charity Stagetext found that subtitles and closed captioning have become more popular than ever for people viewing audiovisual content. According to the charity’s survey, 80% of young people said they used subtitles all or most of the time!

Accessibility for Everyone

There are plenty of reasons for the increased popularity of adding subtitles to video. For many young people, subtitles make shows and movies easier to follow when other devices may be competing for their attention. Some social media sites, such as video-sharing platforms TikTok, have also introduced captions for much of their content.

Subtitles also form an essential part of engaging with video content for those with hearing issues, such as the Deaf community, and people who don’t speak English as their first language. Adding subtitles to your video can be a fantastic and easy way of making content much more accessible for everybody.
