International Translation Day 2020

International Translation Day is celebrated on the 30th September because the feast of St Jerome is celebrated on this date. St Jerome is considered the patron saint of translators.

The theme of this year’s International Translation Day is ‘Finding the Words For A World In Crisis,’ a topical reflection of the Coronavirus pandemic which has dominated lives across the globe in 2020.

Earlier this month on the Atlas Translations blog, we looked at the language of a pandemic, however, the role of translators and interpreters in a world crisis is far more important than simply identifying new phrases and the evolution of language to deal with a public health emergency.

The Importance of Translation

Translators and interpreters are hugely important to ensure collaboration, co-operation and learning across borders. At a time when nations across the world are impacted by a pandemic, common languages and translators are enabling professionals and experts to learn and share information quickly and effectively.

Translation plays a crucial role in moving words and ideas across nations, nurturing international relationships and ensuring that knowledge is shared to the benefit of the global community. The role of translators and interpreters is more important than ever. Translations are crucial at a time when scientists and medical professionals all over the world are rapidly learning about a novel Coronavirus, with new research arising all the time.

Translators and interpreters can also provide an essential role in helping to set up new supply chains or to enable businesses to pivot in order to respond to changes in the economy.

At Atlas Translations we’ve always appreciated the vital function of languages and translations in the global community. Now, more than ever, we recognise the value of our fantastic translators, interpreters and project managers. Together we are better and stronger.

Happy International Translation Day from all of us at Atlas Translations.
