St Albans Postboxes is masterminded by Atlas Translations’ director Clare Suttie and creative crocheter Candy Stuart. This will be the third festive season for St Albans Postboxes. Yarnbombers across the district have been assembled to bring colour and fun to local postboxes in aid of charity.

Postboxes are decorated with a crocheted creation, each with a Christmas or winter theme. The toppers fit over the lid of the postboxes like a very special Royal Mail teacosy. They’re carefully designed so they don’t interfere with the important function of keeping your post safe. You can read more about the history of yarnbombing for charity in St Albans by clicking here.

This year the St Albans Postboxes initiative is raising money for two charities: Open Door St Albans and St Albans & District Foodbank. The fundraising target is £10,000 and the charities will receive half of the donations each, as all the work behind the scenes is generously provided by volunteers.

Postbox topper spotting is a fantastic socially distanced activity and we hope that it brightens up many local walks, jogs and runs in December. I’m sure that it goes without saying that anyone enjoying the postbox toppers should follow all government guidelines in place at the time.

The countdown is on and there are now less than two weeks until the big reveal!
