University of Westminster’s Meet the Client Event
Last week, Atlas’ director, Clare Suttie, was at the University of Westminster’s event in partnership with the ITI’s London Regional Group. A regular fixture in their (and our) calendar, the Meet the Client event was well-attended, lively and inspirational!
Clare was in good company – also presenting and speaking were James Powell of Transperfect, Lindsay Bywood of Voice Script International, currently studying for a PhD at Imperial College, and Louise Killeen of Louise Killeen Translations. After presentations from each speaker and a welcome break for refreshments, the audience reconvened around six tables and the speakers moved around to speak to the groups at each table.
Clare says:
“There were so many questions – including requests for information on internships/placements, an increase in requests for translation of social media posts, gaining experience, what to specialise in, how many words a day would a professional translator be expected to translate, how was the market for public service interpreters, how should a translator work out how much to charge, what did we think of EuroPass CVs, how many clients should a freelancer aim to have…
It was wonderful to see so many talented and enthusiastic future translators and interpreters in one room (and some established ones too!). I hope they went away feeling encouraged and fired up to work on their CVs.”
