Translation Agency Work Placement Update
We asked Stefania about her work placement with us so far. Stefania has a bachelor’s degree in Cultural and Linguistic Mediation as well as experience working in translation and interpreting. She is currently in her final year of her MA in Translation at university in Naples. It’s been lovely to have her here – and here’s her view:
I have been with Atlas as a work placement for nearly five months now, and I just can’t believe that time has gone by so quickly. I remember my first day, when I was a bit scared of what was expected of me, but, at the same time, I felt really motivated to go ahead and do all I was supposed to do.
You need motivation to achieve your aims, especially when you are in a foreign country and making yourself understood can sometimes be a struggle. Now I feel much more confident. I’m learning new things day by day – for example, I’d never have believed that I would be able to pick up the phone!
What I find really interesting about working in the translation industry is dealing with clients, trying to be helpful and matching their needs as much as possible. I was so impressed when I first watched my colleagues doing that. I remember asking myself: “How do they do that?” And now I’m doing it! It is not that long ago that I started dealing with a few clients myself and it’s so exciting! I’m slowly getting into it and it’s nice to hear from your clients that they are happy with your work.
However, this is also one of those jobs which requires attention and precision every step of the way which is why sometimes it can be really hard, especially when you need to manage many different jobs at once. I will probably need to get more experience to be able to keep everything under control, but I have to say that one of my biggest flaws is being stubborn – I won’t give up easily!
Thanks Stefania – having seen you in action, we at Atlas are sure that you have a successful career in our industry ahead of you.
