Early this year, Hostage International got in touch with us, requiring translation of their resources into French. This unique charity delivers emotional and practical support to people internationally, and in a growing number of languages. Providing increasing support to people in Canada, it was essential that they could deliver their resources in French as well as in English.
And that’s where we came in.
We speak to Georgina Cooper, Communications Executive from Hostage International, about the project:
What is Hostage International and what do you do?
Hostage International is a unique charity delivering essential emotional and practical support to those affected by the kidnap or illegal detention of a loved one, and to hostages and detainees after their release.
As most people can only imagine, kidnapping is a terrifying ordeal. Our dedicated team offers free, independent, confidential, and open-ended support throughout this traumatic time.
Hostage International’s expertise is in supporting those affected by kidnapping or arbitrary detentions outside their home country. We are not involved in the resolution of these incidents but fill a much-needed role in helping people cope with the day-to-day difficulties caused by kidnaps and illegal detentions.
Why did you decide to approach Atlas over another agency?
As usual, we sought quotes from three different agencies, but I was keen to work with Atlas Translations having worked with them on previous projects when I worked for a different charity. They come tried and tested and their initial quote came in way below the others with a charity discount – and then we were offered this as a pro bono translation!
What was the nature of the project Atlas assisted you with?
As an international charity, we have trained volunteer caseworkers based in multiple countries, including Australia, Canada, and across Europe, delivering support in English and a growing number of languages including French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Arabic.
With our growth in providing support in Canada, it is essential that we can also provide our resources in French as well as English.
How will the finished result help you and your customers/clients/audience?
Atlas has translated our Guides so that our French-speaking beneficiaries and caseworkers will be able to access them.
Were you happy with the service provided?
Could not have been happier with the service provided by Atlas. Thank you to Clare, Charlie and the Atlas team for supporting Hostage International.
Was the quote reasonably priced?
Ridiculously so – we were initially offered a charity discount, then given it as a pro bono translation, meaning that our funds that we would have spent on this can be diverted to our beneficiaries.
How was the turnaround time?
Quick!
How was correspondence with your project manager?
Lovely project manager, Charlie, was clear, informative, and sympathetic to the charity’s needs.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’ll continue to recommend Atlas Translations to anyone who’ll listen!
