Translating for Scientists Warning Europe ahead of the COP26 in Glasgow

SECTOR: Environment & Science | BRIEF: Translation of report into Chinese, Bengali, Hindi & Urdu

Science-endorsed solutions

Scientists Warning Europe is an organisation that presents and promotes science-endorsed solutions with the aim of leading the world to a sustainable and equitable future. The organisation approached Kate, a translator and friend of Atlas, to ask whether she would like to work on a pro bono basis to help them produce multilingual versions of their most recent Warning to Humanity – specifically, the summary of the most recent report, so that this could be distributed to scientists worldwide with the aim of gathering as many signatures from the global science community as possible. This was to be launched in time for the COP26 in Glasgow in late 2021.

Report gains signatures from global science community thanks to translation

Struggling to place a couple of the 10 or so languages needed, and with time being of the essence, Kate put out a call on LinkedIn and we responded quickly, offering to find translators and revisers for those languages.

“I went with Atlas because I already knew they were a reputable company, plus they were enthusiastic and helpful from the off! I was incredibly grateful for Charlie’s prompt response, regular updates and willingness to go out of her way to help us meet our objective. She made what was a stressful period far less stressful because I knew that those languages were safe in her hands, and Atlas became an exceptional part of the team effort mounted to get the paper summary translated within very tight timescales. It meant that we were able to publish the summary in all of the languages SWE asked for, in the time required.

I was more than happy with the service provided – Atlas went above and beyond and proved themselves to be passionate about breaking down language barriers for the greater good (and not just all about the profits, which sadly is often the case in our industry).”
