Our Services

Abridging and Abstracting

We offer our Abridging and Abstracting service
to condense, or summarise, an existing text.

Atlas Translations have provided a variety of services for Alzheimer’s Society, including the translation of our flagship information resource ‘Worried about your memory?’ into a variety of different languages. The service we have received is consistently to high standard, with staff going beyond the call of duty to fulfil our requirements. I will definitely be using this translation agency again, and would recommend them to anyone looking for top quality translation services.

You have been such a help and we can’t thank you enough. We’re getting an amazing response. It is quite a challenge, but we wouldn’t be making our deadlines without your translation agency’s assistance. Many many thanks.

BBC

Atlas completed the work within our time frame and the proofreading service gave us the extra peace of mind that the translations were accurate and of quality.

It’s tough when you have to rely on a translation agency and trust that the translations are correct but with Atlas, we can rest assured that the language, tone, and style of translation is suitable for our audiences.

Do you need to shorten a lengthy technical translation? There are many reasons you may need our abridging and abstracting service. It may not be economical to publish it in its current form. Perhaps you are preparing a text for translation and need to shorten it. Additionally, it could be too long for the requirements of a new market, some sections may be unnecessary, or the writing style longwinded.

Types of Media Channels We Work With

Abstracts, books, calendars and diaries, catalogues, CD ROMs, conference materials, corporate publications, databases, dictionaries, directories and yearbooks, distance-learning materials, educational materials, encyclopaedias, exhibition catalogues, e-zines, hotel guides, language course materials, leaflets, magazines, manuals, maps and atlases, menus, newsletters, newspapers, online materials, phrasebooks, posters, press releases, theatre programmes, prospectuses, company reports, slide presentations, league tables, dissertations, training materials, travel guides, websites.

We can reduce the text in your document to your required word or page count by structural editing and rewriting. We also welcome any instructions regarding your specific house style.

This service is charged at an hourly rate, depending on language and subject area.

We can either:

a) abridge your text using word processing software (Word, Google Docs) and then provide you with a file where the amendments are marked using track changes

b) deliver a final version of the text without showing the tracked changes

We work in many formats and in most software packages—meaning we can deliver files by e-mail and, if needed, on disk/CD.
